Looking to Mess with Utah Teams
Provo, Utah (Aug. 31, 2005) -- The Cougars (2-0-0) return home to Provo on Friday to face a talented Weber State University (1-1-0) squad in the first of a four-game home stand. BYU will then look for its fourth win against in-state rival Utah State on Monday. The games will be played at South Stadium with game times slated for 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
Coming into this week, the Weber State Wildcats have compiled a 1-1-0 record. The matchup with the Cougars will be their third road game in a row, with two more on the way, before returning to Ogden.
Weber State University opened up the 2005 regular season with a strong defensive effort, which paid off with a 1-0 win over Utah Valley State College. The Wildcat defense held UVSC to only five shots for the game, all of which came in the second half. The Wildcats then fell to Arizona State, 5-2, on Sunday despite a pair of career-first goals and 10 saves from senior goalkeeper Kandice Golar.
The Utah State Aggies, who struggle through a tough weekend by losing one game and tying the other, face BYU for their first road game of the season. In their season opener, Utah State fell to Gonzaga, 2-1. The game on Sunday against in-state rival Southern Utah ended in a 1-1 draw. Sophomore Dana Peart scored Utah State's lone goals in both games.
BYU leads the series against Weber State 8-0, as well as Utah State 2-0.
