BYU Shutout Utah State 2-0

Registering its 45th shutout at South Stadium, BYU responded from a tough loss Saturday by defeating Utah State 2-0 with pinpoint passing and solid defense.

Both goals came in the first half on just three shots. Multiple Cougars got involved when sophomore Claire Thomas connected with junior Charlene Lui to assist on the goal by junior Jaime Rendich. The goal was the team-leading third of the season for Rendich. In the 18th minute, sophomore Bobbi Tillotson crossed a corner kick to Thomas, who found senior Krissa Reinbold for her first goal of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Erika Woodbury anchored the BYU defense with her first career shutout. The Cougars outshot the Aggies 11-2 in the second half, with some of the shots hitting the crossbar.

Reinbold said she has felt added pressure this season to play well.

"There's definitely more pressure to do a little more," Reinbold said. "Personally, I need to just find a way to relax."

Head coach Jen Rockwood involved more players than usual, allowing some of the younger players to play some valuable minutes.

"The girls have done a great job working hard in practice," Rockwood said. "I wanted them to get some minutes now, while we can evaluate each game and see what works best for our team."

Rockwood said she believes the tight schedule this season, although demanding on the players, helps with the learning curve. BYU has 20 out of the 33 girls on the roster that are freshman and sophomores.

Improving to 2-3 on the season, BYU's next home game is Friday against Gonzaga at 7 p.m. Utah State drops its third game in a row, falling to 1-4.
