Blue Team Scores at Team Scrimmage

PROVO, Utah (Aug. 20, 2004) In the annual Blue and White scrimmage for the BYU women's soccer team, the Blue team got the 1-0 win, Friday.

Both teams played two 40-minute halves with head coach Jennifer Rockwood substituting freely throughout the scrimmage.

Sophomore Haylee Cuthbert, from Orem, got the Blue team on the scoreboard with 2:40 left in the first half, putting the ball on the far right corner of the net just past the hands of senior goalkeeper Mandy Gott.

"This game is typically does not have a high scoring outcome because of the good players that we have on the field," said coach Rockwood. "We have also been spending a lot of time working on our defense, and we can clearly see that the girls are doing what we've asked of them. Next week we want to switch our focus and work on our offensive efforts, we've still got a lot of work to do and we have a very young team."

The Cougars open the 2004 season at Idaho State on August 27, and are at home for the season opener against highly ranked Kansas on Monday, August 30. The opening home game kicks off at 2 p.m., at South Stadium with free admission for all BYU soccer fans.
