PROVO -- BYU freshman Annie Zwahlen has been named to the Soccer America Team of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against the No. 14 USC Trojans on Friday.

This is the first national award for the freshman reserve who has tallied three goals on the season including game-winners against USC and No. 7 Tennessee.

"Annie is a player that gives us an advantage with her size inside," said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "She has come up big for us in several games this year."

At the forward position, Zwahlen has seen action in 11 of the Cougars' 12 games this season and is currently tied for third on the team's scoring list.

"I never expected anything like this when I came here," said Zwahlen. "To be recognized nationally is pretty cool."

Zwahlen and the No. 17 Cougars are set to open conference play this week with a home game against New Mexico (1-5-3) on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 6:00 p.m. at South Stadium.
