Four Different Players Score in Soccer Shut Out
Spokane, Wash. (Sept. 23, 2003) In their second road trip of the season, the BYU women's soccer team picked up its sixth shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory over Gonzaga, Tuesday.
The team's highly powered offense got scores from four different players in the win that improves the Cougars' record to 6-2-1 on the season while the Gonzaga Bulldogs fall to 3-4 on the year.
Sophomore Jaime Rendich got BYU on the scoreboard with an early goal in the 15th minute of action after the Gonzaga keeper Ashley Haygen had come out of the box leaving Rendich wide open for an easy tap of the ball for the score. Teammate Lydia Ojuka was credited with the assist. Rendich later on would get two assists in the contest.
In the second half of play, BYU put the game out of reach with three more goals from senior Terra Bigelow, junior Krissa Campbell and freshman Annie Zwahlen. Another Cougar freshman Bobbi Tillotson received the assist credit on the Zwahlen goal. Both had come off the bench.
"This was a very good win for us especially on the road," said Cougar soccer coach Jennifer Rockwood. "It was nice to see several players scoring and stepping up their level of play."
BYU outshot Gonzaga 18 to eight with the Cougars getting six corner kick opportunities to the Bulldogs three.
The BYU team (6-2-1) returns home to face No. 5 Florida on Friday at South Stadium. Kick off for the contest is set for 7 p.m.
