BYU Blanks Weber for Third Straight Shutout
PROVO -- The BYU women's soccer team posted its third shutout in as many games Wednesday night, shutting out Weber State, 3-0, before 1,050 fans in Provo.
The Cougars were led by senior All-American Maren Hendershot, who notched a goal and two assists in the victory. Kim Lowe also contributed a goal and an assist.
"(Weber) fought us real hard, as they always do," said BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood. "They kept us on our toes, especially in the first half."
BYU jumped out to an early lead on a goal by Sarah Hingham just over seven minutes into play. Lowe followed up with a goal of her own midway through the first half on a pass by Hendershot. Lowe then returned the favor in the second half, dishing a pass to Hendershot, who connected for the Cougar's final goal.
BYU's stingy defense dominated once again, allowing the Wildcats just three shots in the game. The Cougars have recorded four shutouts this season, and have held their past three opponents scoreless.
"Our defense did a nice job," Rockwood said. "Our offense is really our best defense, though. Our defense is very offensively minded, and it makes it hard for the other team to get going."
BYU improved to 10-1 with the win, while Weber State dropped to 1-7. The Cougars travel to Boston this weekend, where they will face Boston University on Saturday and nationally ranked Harvard University on Monday.
BYU 3, Weber State 0BYU - Sarah Hingham, 7:27 (assisted by Karen Wunderli and Maren Hendershot)
BYU - Kim Lowe, 24:29 (assisted by Hendershot)
BYU - Hendershot, 73:38 (assisted by Lowe)
