BYU Edges Boston University

CAMBRIDGE -- After fighting through a scoreless first half, the BYU women's soccer team scored back-to-back goals to defeat Boston University, 2-1, Saturday in the Harvard Invitational.

Despite recording 19 shots in the first half alone, the Cougars didn't convert until the second half, when Kim Lowe connected on a pass from Maren Hendershot. Sarah Higham then followed up with a goal of her own just three minutes later off a feed from Aurelin Weidner to make it 2-0.

BU's Allison Merkle netted a goal for the Terriers with just under 20 minutes left to play, but it wasn't enough to defeat the 12th-ranked Cougars.

The Cougars had 30 shot attempts in the win, their second-highest total of the season. BYU's defense held the Terriers to 11 shots in the game

BYU goalie Jennifer Waldron recorded four saves in the victory, while BU goalie Meghan Lynch managed ten saves against the Cougars.

The Cougars improved to 11-1 with the win. The Terriers dropped to 6-4.

BYU will next face Harvard University Monday at 3 p.m. before returning home to Provo. Harvard also posted a win in its first game of the invitational, beating Penn 2-1 in overtime and improving its record to 5-1.
