BYU Posts Tenth Shutout of Season
PROVO -- The BYU women's soccer team posted its tenth shutout of the season and fifth in conference play Saturday night, dealing Air Force a 4-0 loss in front of 1,238 in Provo.
The Cougars (16-3, 5-1 conference) finished out regular season play against conference rivals, allowing just two goals in six games. Each of BYU's five conference victories were shutout wins.
BYU led a balanced scoring attack against the Falcons (8-9, 3-3 conference), led by freshmen Jeni Williardson and Rachelle Dixon, who came off the bench to chip in a goal and an assist each. Junior Sara Reading connected on a header for the Cougars' first goal midway through the first half, and Williardson converted on a feed from Dixon 15 minutes later. Williardson then assisted on a goal by All-American Maren Hendershot in the second half before Dixon placed a rebound shot with four minutes left to play.
"This was a full team effort," said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "It's great when everyone plays well."
BYU recorded 35 shot attempts to Air Force's six. In six conference games, the Cougars have outshot their opponents 174-34.
"We're on a roll now," Rockwood said. "The last two games we've played very well. We want to be playing our best soccer come next week."
The Cougars play one more regular season game, a home meeting against Long Beach State Thursday at 6 p.m., before heading to the inaugural Mountain West Conference Championships the following week.
