Cougars Drop Road Game Against Washington

Seattle, WA -- On their first road trip of the season, BYU's women's soccer team did not fare well as they fell 1-0 to Washington, Tuesday.

The 20th ranked Cougars are now 1-1 on the year while Washington improves to 2-0.

BYU outshot the Huskies 22 to 11 but just could not get anything inside the net. Washington's Caroline Putz scored off a free kick in the 35th minute of the game.

This was a disappointing loss for us. It was a pretty even game early on, but then they did a lot of great things, came at us hard and were able to score," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood.

"You have to give Washington a lot of credit. They are a great team that came at us hard and wanted the win more then we did."

Both teams played fairly even in the first half of play in a steady drizzle and with the temperature in the 50's. In the second half, the Cougars picked up the pace but could not get in a score. Coach Rockwood hopes the game will be a good learning experience for the team. "It all comes down to putting the ball in the net. In the second half we played a lot better but we need to learn to play for a full 90 minutes as a team. It's still early in the season," added Rockwood.

The Cougars remain on the road with a contest against Montana, Thursday night.
