Reading Leads BYU To A 2-0 Shutout Over Florida In Women's Soccer

Gainesville, FL (Sept, 18, 2000) - Sara Reading's two goals in the second half

lifted BYU's women's soccer team to a 2-0 road win over Florida, Monday.

The win improves the Cougars record to 6-2 on the season while Florida falls to 3-5.

"We stuck to our game plan and were prepared with what ever they (Florida) was going to give us," said Cougar coach Jennifer Rockwood.

"This is such a huge win on the road for us. Florida is a great team and I know they'll go on to win their conference and go to the NCAA. They won the national championship in 1999, and they've played an extremely tough schedule to start the 2000 season," added Rockwood.

Reading's first goal was a header on BYU's third consecutive corner kick early in second half action. Twenty minutes later Reading extended the Cougar lead with her second goal of the night from 24 yards out right into the middle of the goal. Kim Lowe and Jeni Willardson were credited with an assist on each of Reading's scores.

"We knew that Sara had to have a huge game for us to pick up the win and she did. And we needed our junior goalkeeper Jennifer Waldron to step up and she did, coming up with some great saves for us," said Rockwood.

The 2-0 shutout was the first for Waldron this season.

BYU continues its season on the road with games in Milwaukee against Marquette and Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sept. 22 and 23. The Cougars next home game is on Sept. 28 against Southern Cal.
