A Two Game Road Trip To Wisconsin Is This Week's Schedule For BYU's Women's Soccer Team

BYU's women's soccer team captured one of their biggest road wins of the season with a 2-0 shutout over Florida. The team hopes to ride that momentum into this week's games in Wisconsin against Marquette and Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22 and 23.

BYU Head Coach Jennifer Rockwood Could Reach 100th Win This Weekend

The Cougars fourth road trip of the 2000 season could become a milestone for coach Jennifer Rockwood. Currently, in her sixth season at the helm of the women's soccer program, her overall record stands at 99-24-1. A win at Marquette or Wisconsin-Milwaukee would clinch her 100th career win.

2000 Season Highlights

• Record:6-2-0

• Senior Michelle Jensen Peterson leads the team in scoring with eight goals and three assists for her 19 points. Peterson has picked up two MWC Player of the Week citations this year, on Sept. 5 and 11. In the Creighton win on September 6, she tallied the first hat trick of the year for her and the team.

• The team picked up its first score off a corner kick in the 2-0 victory over Florida on 9/18. Sara Reading put in a header off Kim Lowe's corner kick. Reading later secured the Cougar victory with a goal from 25 yards out.

• Freshman All-America Aleisha Cramer tallied her first collegiate goal for the Cougars, a minute and a half into the Weber State game. In that game, she picked up two goals and an assist. Currently Cramer has two goals and five assist for her nine points from 20 shots.

• Jennifer Waldron, the junior goalkeeper for BYU picked up her first solo shutout in 2000 with the 2-0 win over Florida in Gainesville on Sept. 18.

• Sophomore goalie Kylee Dickson got her first start of the year against Washington State on September 4. She was credited with her first shutout of the season as well in the 3-0 BYU home victory.

BYU vs Marquette Notes

The Golden Eagles currently have a 6-1-0 record and have one all four of their home games to date. Seven starters are back in 2000 highlighted by senior co-captain and goalkeeper Mo Bothwell, one of the best goalies in the conference. She's already had to solo shutouts. In scoring, Kate Gordon tops the list with 13 points from five goals and three assists. Marquette is averaging 17.6 shots, and 2.5 goals a game.

BYU vs Wisconsin-Milwaukee Notes

UWM will be hosting the Cougars in a Saturday afternoon game. The Panthers are 4-4-1 so far this year. They're 2-1 at home after a 5-2 victory over University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Wednesday. Freshman Lisa Bengtsson is the team's leading scorer with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Kristin Munyon a midfielder/defender has nine points from four goals and one assist. UWM averages 18.4 shots and 2.1 goals a game.

The Record: 1-0 in favor of BYU. These two teams met last year in Provo with the Cougars picking up the 5-1 win.

Coach Jennifer Rockwood Quotes

(On the Cougars) We're coming off one of our biggest road wins of the season and that's a great positive for us because I know we played extremely well in Florida. It was an exciting week for BYU soccer. We'd like to take that momentum into this weekend and play our best soccer. We need to be focused because if we don't play well then that will nullify our big win over Florida.

(On Marquette and Wisconsin-Milwaukee) Marquette will give us a tough game on Friday. This is our first game with them so we need to be ready for whatever they throw at us. I know that Milwaukee-Wisconsin will also be ready to play us on Saturday afternoon. And I know they will want to get the home win because we beat them on our home field last year.

The Rockwood File

Jennifer Rockwood begins her sixth season at the helm of BYU's women's soccer program. In the five year history of the Division I program, she has guided her team to two conference championships and three straight appearances in the NCAA Championships beginning with the 1997 season. The Cougars highest finish in the NCAA tourney came in 1998 when BYU finished in the "Sweet Sixteen." Her many honors include being named Coach of the Year by the Western Athletic Conference and by Soccer Buzz in 1996.

Prior to becoming the head coach, Rockwood led BYU's highly successful club soccer team, for seven years and compiled a 128-25-9 record. In her final two years, she took her teams to first place in the Western National Collegiate Club Soccer Association (NCCSA) championships and to second place in the NCCSA national championships.

A native of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Rockwood was a three-sport athlete and was awarded all-league and all-state honors in soccer, basketball, and track. During her high school and collegiate years, she competed in the Olympic Development Program in both Oregon and Utah. Rockwood attended Ricks College on an academic and basketball scholarship for one year and then transferred to BYU, graduating in 1989 with a business administration degree. While at BYU, she played on the soccer club team as a four-year starter at center midfield.

Rockwood coached in the Utah Olympic Development Program and has coached at the youth club and high school levels. She is also currently the director of BYU summer soccer camps which recently put through over 1,400 participants.

BYU leaves for Wisconsin on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m., arriving at 6 p.m. The team returns to Provo on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 11:30 a.m.
