Cougars Bounce Back and Defeat Wisconsin -- Milwaukee, 2-0
Milwaukee, Wis. (Sept. 23, 2000) - BYU's women's soccer team rebounded from a loss Friday night to beat University of Wisconsin -- Milwaukee 2-0, Saturday afternoon. The win marks the 100th victory for BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood.
Despite having 12 shots, BYU couldn't find the back of the net in the first half. Cougar goalkeeper Kylee Dickson started her second game of the season and recorded her second shutout of the year.
"Things did not come easy for us," Rockwood said. "We struggled in the first half and couldn't find our rhythm. We need to give it our all and find a way to win. Kim came through for us today and Kylee got her second start and did a nice job getting the shutout," Rockwood added.
The Cougars got on the board at the 61:52 mark of the game when senior midfielder Kim Lowe scored on an assist by Sarah Higham. Michelle Peterson sealed the win with her team-leading ninth goal late in the second half on an assist by Jennie Christianson. BYU ended the game with 21 shots compared to Wisconsin -- Milwaukee's four.
With the win, the Cougars improve their season record to 7-3 while Wisconsin -- Milwaukee drops to 4-5-1 on the season. BYU returns home for two games next week. "We are excited to be back in Provo and focus on the big games coming up next week," Rockwood said. The Cougars play the University of Southern California, Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at South Field and Arizona State University on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
