Cougar Women Get MWC Soccer Win Game Over UNM
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mex. (Oct. 5, 2000) Four goals from four different players gave
BYU's 17th ranked women's soccer team its first Mountain West Conference win of the year, a 4-1 victory over New Mexico, Thursday
Casie Deegan put the Lobos up 1-0 in the 10th minute of the game. The Cougars got their dangerous offense going a few minutes later with three goals in the first half and one in the second. Leading the BYU effort was senior forward Sara Reading who tied up the score at 1-1. Then it was the Cougars' leading scorer Michelle Jensen Peterson's turn followed by Jeni Willardson goal who gave BYU the 3-1 advantage at the half. Senior team captain Natalyn Lewis got her fifth goal of the year in second half action to seal the Cougar victory.
With the team's first conference win of the 2000 season, BYU extends its record to 9-3-1, 1-0-0 in league games. New Mexico goes to 1-1 in conference games,6-7-0 overall.
"We played very well tonight moving the ball well and playing our possession game all night," said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "This was a total team effort where everyone got a chance to play. Natalyn (Lewis) and Aleisha Cramer did a great job in the middle for us."
The Cougar women continue MWC play on Saturday, Oct. 7 in Salt Lake City with a 1 p.m. game against instate rival Utah.
