Michelle Peterson Gets Another Hat Trick To Lead Y Women In Win Over Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 7, 2000) Picking up her second hat trick of the year, senior Michelle Peterson led the 17th ranked BYU women to their second MWC soccer victory of the season, a 5-2 win over instate rival Utah, Saturday.

Peterson's goals along with goals from teammates Athelia Graham and Kim Lowe improved the Cougars record to 10-3-1, 2-0 on the season. Utah falls to 7-6-1, 0-2.

"This was a great game, especially in the second half," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "We played really well, our style of play and everyone had an opportunity to come off the bench for some minutes."

The Cougars struck early just a minute into the game with Peterson's first unassisted goal. Utah's Katie Tate tied up the score at one a piece in the 15th minute. It remained tied for the rest of first half action.

BYU got its high scoring machine going in the 51st minute with Peterson's second score of the game. Twelve minutes later Peterson record an assist on Kim Lowe's goal at the 62-minute mark. Then four minutes later it was defender Graham's turn, her first score this season off a corner kick. Just two minutes later Peterson recorded her hat trick after receiving a pass from freshman Aleisha Cramer.

Utah's second half score came off a penalty kick in the 71st minute of the game. BYU outshot the Utes 23 to four.

Conference action continues at home next week for the Cougar women as they host San Diego State and UNLV Thurs, Oct. 12 and Sat, Oct. 14. Both games kick off at 6 p.m., at South Field.
