Final Two Conference Games On The Road This Week

The last two conference games of the year will be played on the road by the 15th ranked BYU women's soccer team. This Thursday, Oct. 19 the Cougars battle Air Force at 3 p.m.and then travel to Laramie for a Sat. Oct. 21 contest against Wyoming in a 1 p.m. kick off.

Last Week Recap

ò BYU hosted its final regular season games last Thursday and Saturday where they picked up two huge conference wins over SDSU and UNLV.

òFreshman All-American Aleisha Cramer had a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win over the Aztecs, with teammate Jennie Christianson picking up her third and fourth goals of the year in the contest as well.

òIn the 5-0 shutout over UNLV senior Kim Lowe along with Cramer had two goals a piece with two assists for Lowe and one for Cramer.

òAll three goalkeepers got some playing time in the UNLV game as the trio was credited with the combined shutout.

Cougars Picked To Repeat as MWC Champions

BYU was selected as the favorite to capture its second straight conference title in a vote by the league's coaches.

2000 Season Highlights

ò Record:12-3-1, 4-0-0

ò Senior midfielder Michelle Jensen Peterson, picked up her third MWC Player of the Week honor on Oct. 9. Her weekly performance included four goals and three assists in the two conference games.

ò Peterson continues as the teams leading scorer with 14 goals and nine assists for her 37 points. Teammate Kim Lowe who's tallied 27 points from seven goals and 13 assists is in second place. Lowe is also the team's assist leader.

ò The Cougars are currently on a six-game winning streak and a tie on Sept. 23 against USC. BYU has won all four conference games to date.

ò BYU finished their home season undefeated in 2000 with a 7-0-1 record at South Field, their second consecutive year.

ò Head Coach Jennifer Rockwood picked up her 100th win in the 2-0 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sept. 23.

ò The team netted its second score off a corner kick in the 5-2 victory over Utah on Oct. 7. BYU averages 7.0 corner kicks a game.

ò Freshman All-America Aleisha Cramer tallied her first collegiate goal for the Cougars, a minute and a half into the Weber State game. In that game, she picked up two goals and an assist. Currently Cramer has two goals and five assist for her nine points from 24 shots.

ò Jennifer Waldron, BYU's junior goalkeeper picked up her first solo shutout in 2000 with the 2-0 win over Florida in Gainesville on Sept. 18.

ò Sophomore goalie Kylee Dickson got her second start against UWM, recording her second shutout of the year. Her first was against Washington State on Sept. 4, a 3-0 win for the Cougars.

Air Force Notes

The Air Force Falcons are currently 3-11-1, 1-2 on the season. They will play their first conference games at home this week. Air Force Academy has picked up wins over Youngstown State, Army and conference for New Mexico. Junior midfielder Beth Boyer is the team's leading scorer with four goals and seven assists for her 15 points. Two other players are in double digit points. They are Stephanie Rader with 11 points from five goals and one assist and Becky Wyffels with five goals her her 10 points off of 30 shots on goal per game. AF is picking up 2.2 goals off of 16.8 shots and 20 assists to date.

Series Against AF

Record:2-0 favoring BYU. The Cougars have defeated the Falcons in their previous two meetings in Provo's South Field. Last year, the score was 4-0 favoring BYU.

Wyoming Notes

The Cowgirls host the Cougars in conference action on Sat. Oct. 21 in a 1 p.m., kick off. Wyoming is currently 7-6-1, 0-3 on the year. To date they have lost all three of their conference games to UNLV, SD and UNM all three by a one goal. Kelly McShane tops the scoring list for the Cowgirls with nine goals and one assist for her 19 points. Renee Miner is the team's assist leader with three on the year. Two others are in double figure points. They include Anne Maddock with 12 points and Latrina Morton with 10. Wyoming is averaging 14.5 shots and 1.9 goals per game.

Series Against Wyoming

The Record: 5-0 in favor of BYU. Last year, the Cougars defeated the Cowgirls twice. In Provo on Oct. 21 the score was 7-0, then in the MWC tournament, BYU grabbed the 1-0 victory in first round action.

(On the Cougars) We are playing very good soccer right now and are non-starters are coming of the bench and getting some good quality playing time and they too are playing very strong for us. We need to remain focused, especially on the road with the two upcoming games. It's been our goal all along to win the regular season conference schedule and hopefully this weekend we can solidify that goal.

(On AF and WYO) Both of these teams are going to come ready to play and they'll both battle us really hard especially on their home fields. We'll need to play our best soccer and remain focused for the entire 90 minutes to be able to reach our goal and pick up wins in these very tough road games.

BYU finishes its season on the road with games in Tempe, Arizona against Minnesota on Oct. 27 and in Tucson on Oct. 28 against the University of Arizona. The Cougars will then travel to Las Vegas to defend their MWC title on Nov 1-4.
