Cougar Women Get 1st Round Bye, Host 2nd Round In Women's College Cup
PROVO -- After picking up their second straight MWC Title in women's soccer, BYU's 9th ranked women soccer team hosts second round action in this year's Women's College Cup. The winner of Wednesday's Stanford vs San Jose State game will come to South Field on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m.
This is the first time the six-year Division I women's soccer program has gotten a first round bye in the NCAA Championships. BYU ended regular season play with an 18-3-1 record and went undefeated in conference play 6-0.
MWC Coach of the Year Jennifer Rockwood is pleased with the team's first round bye and the successful season the Cougars have had this year.
"We've worked very hard all season to get to this point,"said Rockwood. "We've had a very strong schedule and season and are coming together as a team. We had a good experience in Las Vegas and the girls are ready to go," she added.
BYU has played both Stanford and San Jose State in the past. In last year's championship run, the Cougars beat California 2-0 at home, then went on to lose 2-0 to Santa Clara, the nation's number one team. This will be BYU's fourth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.
