No. 17 BYU Shuts Out Boston 4-0
PROVO -- BYU broke open a tie game with four quick goals to defeat Boston University 4-0, Saturday. The four goals were all scored within a ten-minute span early in the second half. BYU improved to 6-2-1 on the season while Boston fell to 4-3-1.
Jennie Christianson notched her first goal of the season, assisted by Kim Devine and Jeni Williardson Viernes, nine minutes into the second half to open the barrage of scoring. Two minutes later, Aleisha Cramer headed in a corner kick from Rachelle Dixon. Two minutes after that, Viernes scored a goal off an assist from Christianson. Devine pounded in a goal from the right corner of the box assisted by Cramer, finishing off the BYU scoring attack.
A total of twenty players played for BYU. Excellent defense and brilliant offense helped the Cougars out shoot Boston 27-3.
"We played very well in the first half, but unfortunately none of the shots found the net," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "We came out strong in the second half and put more pressure and the execution paid off. Freshman Kim Devine definitely had her breakout game of her career here."
The Cougars are on a difficult road trip next week, playing at Virginia on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and Wake Forest Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
