KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Five players from the BYU women’s soccer team received College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, the organization announced Tuesday. Bella Folino, Savanna Mason, Olivia Smith, Ellie Maughan and Kendell Petersen all received the honors.

The 2022 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. In order to be nominated, players must average a 3.5 GPA and be a strong contributor in at least half of the games during the 2022 season.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those who are selected for first-, second- and third-team honorees will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Folino is receiving academic honors for the third time of her career and studies Business Strategy, with a 4.0 GPA. She has been an offensive force this season, tallying five goals and 56 shots. As another integral part of BYU’s attack, Maughan has notched two goals and three assists, while studying Business Management and maintaining a 3.57 PGA.

As key contributors on BYU’s backline, Smith, Petersen and Mason have proved to be consistent on the field and in the classroom. As graduate students in the Business Administration program, Petersen and Mason have been integral to BYU’s defense this season. Mason has tallied 44 saves and 10 shutouts, while Petersen has helped BYU’s defense shut down some of the top-ranked offensive teams in the country.

Smith has tallied one goal, four assists and 12 shots on the season while studying Experience Design and Management in the Business School, receiving a 3.77 GPA. Her speed and aggressiveness on both sides of the pitch have helped the Cougars advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
