SAN MATEO, Calif. — BYU women’s soccer senior forward Cameron Tucker collected the West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week award and senior goalkeeper Cassidy Smith won WCC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday, for their championship-winning efforts last week.

Tucker scored the game-winning goal in double overtime against No. 16 Pepperdine on Saturday, Nov. 6 to secure a WCC Championship title. After a yellow card by Pepperdine’s Carlee Giammona in the 104th minute, Brecken Mozingo sent the ensuing free kick into the box which was punched by the goalkeeper directly to the right foot of Tucker who sent the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal and sent South Field into a frenzy.

Tucker also recorded five shots, and two shots on goal on Wednesday against Portland.

Overall, Tucker has 36 career goals which is tied for the sixth most in BYU history.

Tucker is tied with Mikayla Colohan for first place in goals (13), second in points (31) and tied for ninth in assists (5) for the WCC in 2021.

Smith captured back-to-back shutouts against Portland and No. 16 Pepperdine this week. Smith never left the pitch during either match, with 90 minutes played against the Pilots and 104 minutes played against the Waves, respectively.

Smith had three saves against Portland and four saves against Pepperdine and has 42 saves this season. She has 120 career saves.

Smith has the highest save percentage in the WCC with .792. She is third in goals against average with 0.68 and has the second-fewest goals against with 11.

This award marks the sixth and seventh WCC weekly honors collected by BYU players this season. It is the second individual honor for Tucker and the second for Smith this season.
