Colohan nominated for 2021 Senior CLASS Award
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — BYU senior midfielder Mikayla Colohan has been selected as a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award, one of the most prestigious awards in college athletics.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate-student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
Colohan and the other candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Men’s and Women’s College Cup championships in December.
On the field, Colohan has experienced a career full of accolades. She is a three-time WCC first team member and has been named the WCC Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons. Also, she is a three time All-American, earning first team recognition in both 2019 and 2020-21. In the 2021 NWSL Draft, Colohan was selected 14th overall by the Orlando Pride. She will join the team after exhausting her collegiate eligibility this season.
Colohan represents the BYU women’s soccer program as a consistent leader, thriving in that role ever since her freshman year. A 2021 team captain, Colohan has started in 77 out of 79 games in her BYU career. Her leadership is seen on and off the field, often interacting with and embracing BYU community members off the field.
In the classroom, Colohan is a first team Scholar All-American, and WCC All-Academic Team member who carries a 3.63 GPA as an exercise and wellness major. She has career aspirations of being an athletic director.
