BYU loses its second SEC road game, falling 2-0 to Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The BYU women’s soccer team fell to Arkansas 2-0 Monday Night in front of a crowd of 2,370 fans for the Razorbacks’ home opener.
Despite the Cougars outshooting the Razorbacks 14-11, Arkansas controlled the momentum throughout the match, and BYU couldn’t turn it around.
Cameron Tucker made her 2021 regular season debut in the game, after missing the first three games due to a knee injury. Tucker played 37 minutes off the bench.
Arkansas put pressure on BYU early, and opened by scoring in the fourth minute on an indirect free kick from deep in the box.
In the 42nd minute, Mikayla Colohan was on her way to a shot on goal, but was blocked right before the half.
To start off the second half, Arkansas forward Anna Podojil scored for a second time in the top center of the goal after defender Olivia Smith loss touch of the ball.
Colohan looked to respond again for the Cougars with a free kick, but sent it right at the goaltender in the 64th minute.
Rachel McCarthy had a chance to score with less than a minute left off of a long run, but ultimately was blocked.
Colohan and Jamie Shephard picked up two shots a piece, and each had a shot on goal. Brecken Mozingo had three shot attempts, but none were able to reach the frame.
BYU will return to South Field on Thursday, Sept. 2 to host Marquette.
