Cougars on the road for Santa Clara, Saint Mary's
PROVO, Utah – No. 17 BYU women's soccer will head on the road for matchups against No. 9 Santa Clara on Wednesday, March 31 and Saint Mary’s on Saturday, April 3.
Wednesday’s matchup against Santa Clara will be the two team’s second meeting this season. The game will not be counted as a West Coast Conference game. The start is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT at Stevens Stadium in California. Radio coverage will be on BYU Sports Network—BYU Radio 107.9 FM with audio play-by-play also streaming on the BYU Cougars app and at BYUCougars.com/LiveRadio. Saturday’s game against Saint Mary’s is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT at Saint Mary’s Stadium, with radio coverage on the BYU Cougars App. Both games will be available for streaming on the WCC Network.
IN THE RANKINGS. After consecutive shutouts against San Diego and Gonzaga, BYU is ranked No. 17 in the National Soccer Coaches Association Poll. In the TopDrawerSoccer national rankings, BYU is ranked No. 22.
LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. BYU won its fourth straight match on Saturday with a 4-0 shutout of Gonzaga at South Field. The Cougars were on the attack from the moment they stepped on the pitch, with Makaylie Call opening the scoring for BYU with a goal in the 10th minute off an assist from Cameron Tucker. Jamie Shepherd scored off another assist from Tucker in the 25th minute, putting BYU up 2-0 going into the half. Mikayla Colohan scored in the 49th minute off an assist from Rachel McCarthy, with Tucker scoring the final goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute to put the Zags away.

THE BRONCOS. In the National Soccer Coaches Association Poll, Santa Clara is ranked No. 9. They are No. 16 in the TopDrawerSoccer national ranking. Santa Clara is currently undefeated on the season, and coming off a 4-0 shutout over Pacific. The Broncos scored three goals in the first half and added their final goal of the match in the 64th minute, while outshooting Pacific 17-3.
COUGARS VS. BRONCOS. Despite controlling possession for much of the match, BYU gave up a late goal and fell to Santa Clara 2-1 on March 13 at a snowy South Field. The Cougars struck first with a successful penalty kick from Colohan. After the score was knotted at one for most of the match, the Broncos’ Julie Doyle found a hole in the Cougar defense and scored the deciding goal in the 88th minute. The Cougars are 2-8-5 all-time against the Broncos.

THE GAELS. Saint Mary’s began its season with three ties, and has a single win this season, which came on March 13 against San Diego. The Gaels’ latest matchup was against Gonzaga, a 1-0 loss. Saint Mary’s takes on San Francisco on Tuesday, March 30 before facing BYU.
COUGARS VS. GAELS. The last time the Cougars and Gaels met was on Oct. 18, 2019, when BYU had a commanding 8-0 shutout over Saint Mary’s. BYU’s scoring was wire-to-wire, with the Cougars adding two goals in the last two minutes of play. The Cougars are 9-0-1 all-time against the Gaels.
