Cougars get set to take on UVU at home, Pacific on the road

PROVO, Utah – No. 17 BYU women's soccer will host UVU in the UCCU Crosstown Clash at South Field on Wednesday, March 17 and head to California for a WCC matchup against Pacific on Saturday, March 20.

Wednesday’s game against UVU will be broadcast on BYUtv, while Saturday’s game against Pacific will be streamed on the WCC Network. BYU Sports Network radio coverage will be carried on BYU Radio 107.9 FM, with audio play-by-play also streaming on the BYU Cougars app and at BYUCougars.com/LiveRadio for Wednesday's game.

IN THE RANKINGS. BYU is ranked No. 17 in the National Soccer Coaches Association Poll. In the TopDrawerSoccer national rankings, BYU is ranked No. 25. Many of the teams ranked higher than BYU played a fall soccer season.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. Despite controlling possession for much of the match, BYU gave up a late goal and fell to Santa Clara 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at a snowy South Field. The Cougars grabbed the early 1-0 lead off of a successful penalty kick from Mikayla Colohan in the fifth minute. Colohan slipped the ball just past the goalie’s fingers and into the bottom right corner of the net for her fifth goal of the season and 29th of her career.

THE WOLVERINES. The Utah Valley women's soccer team is coming off a tie against WAC foe California Baptist in a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Saturday afternoon at the UVU Geneva Turf Field in Vineyard, Utah. The Wolverines also took on California Baptist on Thursday, March 11, and fell 2-1. Before the matches against CBU, UVU was on a four-game winning streak. UVU finished the 2019 season 11-9-1 and 5-3-0 in Western Athletic Conference play.

COUGARS VS. WOLVERINES. The last time the Cougars and Wolverines met was Sept. 16, 2019, with BYU winning 1-0. A second half goal by senior defender Danika Serassio combined with strong defensive play helped BYU secure the win. BYU is 6-0-0 all-time versus the Wolverines.

THE TIGERS. Pacific is still searching for its first win of the season after falling to Pepperdine 6-1 on Saturday. Two Pepperdine goals in the first five minutes set the pace for the game. In the 55th minute, the Tigers got on the board for their only goal of the match. Pacific finished the 2019 season with a 3-16-0 record, and 0-9-0 in West Coast Conference play.

COUGARS VS. TIGERS. BYU and Pacific last met on Oct. 12, 2019 with BYU picking up a 6-0 shutout. Each of the six goals was from a different player, and it was BYU’s 14th shutout of the season. BYU is 7-1-0 all-time versus the Tigers.
