No. 4 BYU and No. 1 Stanford clash in NCAA quarterfinals
PROVO, Utah – The No. 4 BYU women's soccer team will clash with No. 1 Stanford in the NCAA quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 29, at Cagan Stadium.

NCAA QUARTERFINALS HISTORY. This is the third time in BYU history that the Cougars have reached the NCAA quarterfinals. BYU fell 3-1 to Connecticut in 2003 and in 2012 dropped an overtime game against North Carolina at South Field. As the No. 2 seed, the Cougars are set to face No. 1 seed Stanford. Three of the four No. 1 seeds remain in the tournament (Stanford, Florida State, North Carolina).
MAC HERMANN TROPHY SEMIFINALISTS. For the first time in BYU history, two athletes have been named semifinalists for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy. Junior Mikayla Colohan and senior Elise Flake join 13 other female athletes from across the country, including two from Stanford (Catarina Macario and Naomi Girma). Three finalists for the award, as voted on by NCAA Division I soccer coaches, will be announced on Dec. 6.
OFFENSIVE POWERHOUSES. This matchup features the top two offensive teams in the nation. Stanford claims the first spot after scoring an impressive 93 goals so far this season, averaging 4.23 goals per game while BYU has found the back of the net 80 times and averages 3.64. Both teams have only allowed 10 goals all year long. The Cardinal are led by junior Catarina Macario who has scored a dominant 30 goals. The Cougars are led by Elise Flake who is fifth in the nation with 20 goals.
THE CARDINAL. Stanford's only loss of the season came against West Coast Conference foe Pepperdine as the Waves took a 1-0 victory in Malibu, California. The Cardinal went on to take the PAC-12 title after going undefeated in conference action. Most recently, Stanford topped No. 4 seed Penn State 2-0 and outshot the Nittany Lions 35 to one.
COUGARS VS. CARDINAL. Stanford leads the series 4-3 with its most recent win coming in 2018 as the Cardinal took a 2-0 win over BYU at South Field. The Cougars played at Stanford twice in 2015, falling 1-0 and 2-1.
