No. 4 BYU takes on Boise State on Friday in NCAA First Round match

PROVO, Utah – No. 4 BYU hosts Boise State in the NCAA tournament first round on Friday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. MST.

WCC POSTSEASON AWARDS. After earning the West Coast Conference title outright for the second year in a row, the Cougars headlined many postseason awards. Head coach Jennifer Rockwood was named Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive season and Mikayla Colohan was named Player of the Year. Joining Colohan on the All-WCC First Team are seniors Elise Flake and Alyssa Jefferson while seniors Lizzy Braby and Rachel Bingham Lyman were named to the All-WCC Second Team. The honorable mention list featured senior Sabrina Davis, senior Danika Serassio, freshman Jamie Shepherd and junior Cameron Tucker. Shepherd and SaraJayne Affleck received All-Freshman honors.

NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY. BYU has now made the NCAA Tournament in 20 of its 25 seasons as a program. This is the first time the Cougars have been awarded a No. 2 seed. In 2018, BYU traveled to TCU but fell 2-1 in the first round of play. The Cougars' most successful tournament berths came in 2003 and 2012 when they played in the quarterfinal.

IN THE RANKINGS. Both Top Drawer Soccer and United Soccer Coaches have BYU ranked No. 4 in this week's polls while the NCAA RPI rankings place the Cougars at No. 12.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. At South Field, BYU took a dominant 8-1 win over Loyola Marymount to win the WCC Championship. Braby led the way with two goals and two assists while Colohan added a brace of her own. Flake, Serassio, Ballstaedt and Ashton Brockbank also found the back of the net in the win.

WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK. Elise Flake won the WCC honor in its final week. The Hermann Trophy nominee scored a goal in each of BYU's games last week while adding a pair of assists to lead the Cougars to a second-consecutive WCC Championship and an undefeated regular season.

THE BRONCOS. Boise State earned the automatic bid from the Mountain West Conference after topping San Diego State 2-0 in the tournament final. This is the first time since joining the MWC that the Broncos will play in the NCAA tournament. Similar to BYU, Boise State grabbed 18 wins while scoring 45 goals and only allowing 12. Goalkeeper Sydney Smith tallied 13 shutouts and Raimee Sherle leads the offense with 16 goals and eight assists.

COUGARS VS. BRONCOS. This is the first meeting between BYU and Boise State.
