Cougars host San Francisco and No. 6 Santa Clara in final home games of the season

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women's soccer team returns to South Field for the season's final home games as they host San Francisco on Thursday, Oct. 25 and No. 6 Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 27.

BYU Game Notes

TOP OF CONFERENCE. The Cougars are tied with the Broncos for first place in conference action after recording five wins and only one loss. Both team's losses came against Pepperdine. Last week, BYU went on the road and earned two wins after beating Pacific (5-1) and Saint Mary's (3-1).

FLAKE AND MOORE DUO. Junior Elise Flake leads the team with 10 goals after scoring a goal in both games at Pacific and Saint Mary's. Flake has also contributed five assists. Sophomore Makaylie Moore tallied three goals as she scored the first goal of the match against the Tigers when Flake crossed the ball to her and two goals against the Gaels. She now has five goals this season. 

LONE SENIOR. Madie Siddoway Gates is the only senior on this year's squad. She will be recognized on Saturday, Oct. 27 for Senior Night. This season, she has scored five goals while adding two assists for a total of 12 points. On her career, she has tallied six goals, three assists, 15 points and 73 shots in 2,599 minutes on the field.

OFFENSE VS. DEFENSE. The BYU offense has scored 40 goals this season while the defense has given up 18 goals. The Cougars are second in the nation for shots per game (22.3), sixth in scoring offense (2.8), seventh in points per game (7.73) and shots on goal per game (9.33).

THE DONS. San Francisco's Miciah Madison was named WCC Player of the Week for the second time this season after helping the Dons get a win over Portland and a tie against Gonzaga in conference. She tallied one goal and two assists in the two games and now has a total of four goals and 11 assists. Samantha Jehnings leads the team with 11 goals and one assist. In conference action, San Francisco has earned wins over Loyola Marymount, Pacific and Portland.

COUGARS VS. DONS. BYU leads the series with six wins and two losses after falling 2-1 at San Francisco in 2014 and 2017. The last time the two teams competed at South Field was in 2015 when the Cougars earned a 4-0 win.

THE BRONCOS. Santa Clara is coming off three-straight wins over Saint Mary's, Portland and Gonzaga. The team has been in the top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll for the last seven weeks. The Broncos beat North Carolina and tied Stanford in September. In conference play, Santa Clara has also earned wins over San Francisco and Loyola Marymount. The Broncos are led by Maddy Gonzalez and Kelcie Hedge who have both scored seven goals. Maria Sanchez has recorded nine assists and five goals.

COUGARS VS. BRONCOS. Santa Clara holds a dominant lead in the series with a record of 7-1-4. In 2017, the Cougars fell 3-4 at Santa Clara in the final game of the season. BYU's only win was in 2014 when the Cougars earned a 5-2 victory at South Field.
