BYU continues WCC action on the road at Pepperdine

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women's soccer team travels to Pepperdine on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. PDT and is looking to stay undefeated in West Coast Conference action.

UNDEFEATED. The Cougars (8-3-1, 3-0-0 WCC) are the only team in the WCC to have won every game so far. Every other school has picked up at least one loss, including No. 7 Santa Clara. Junior Elise Flake helped BYU stay undefeated as she scored in the 98th minute to take the victory over San Diego. The Cougars had previously beaten Gonzaga (3-1) and Portland (3-0).

FLAKE SHOW. Flake leads the offense with eight goals and four assists for a total of 20 points. The forward has scored in the last seven of eight games and in all three conference competitions. 

OFFENSIVE LEADERS. Senior Madie Siddoway Gates follows Flake with five goals and two assists for 12 points and freshman Bella Folino has added four goals and three assists for 11 points. Mikayla Colohan has recorded 11 points after finding the back of the net three times and tallying four assists. Rachel Bingham Lyman leads the team with five assists.

SHOT ATTEMPTS. BYU leads the WCC in total shots and shots per game after totaling 265 shots for an average of 22.08 shots. Against Portland, the Cougars tallied a season high 35 shots.

THE WAVES. Pepperdine (7-6-1, 2-1-1 WCC) is coming off of a huge conference win after shutting out Santa Clara, 1-0. Senior goalkeeper Brielle Preece was named WCC Player of the Week after saving a penalty kick attempt to keep the Broncos off the board. The Waves' other win in conference was over Pacific, the loss came against Saint Mary's and the tie was with San Francisco. The offense has only scored 11 goals this season and is led by Joelle Anderson with four.

SERIES INFORMATION. Pepperdine leads the series 5-4 with its most recent win in 2017 after beating BYU 2-1 at South Field.
