Cougars edged out by No. 9 Texas A&M, 2-0
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The BYU women's soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 9 Texas A&M on Friday night at Ellis Field.
"It's an amazing environment to play in and we were excited," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "We actually got off to the start we wanted. We just couldn't find a way to put it in, but we did things we wanted to do and I'm really proud with the way we attacked. It was a great overall effort and a great and exciting game right from the kickoff."
The Aggies (3-0) took advantage in the 42nd minute when the ball crossed the front of the goal to an open Jimena Lopez for a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In the first half, the Cougars (1-1-1) outshot Texas A&M 9-7 and each team tallied two shots on goal, while BYU recorded four corner kicks.
The final 45 minutes of the match saw 18 combined shots and multiple dangerous attempts by both sides before a long shot in the 87th minute dropped under the crossbar and past an outstretched Cassidy Smith to secure the Aggies win, 2-0.
