PROVO, Utah — The BYU women’s soccer team was picked to finish in third place in the West Coast Conference preseason poll, the league announced Thursday.

No. 19 Santa Clara and No. 18 Pepperdine each received five first-place votes, but the Broncos edged out the Waves after earning one more point for a total of 77 points. Pepperdine is the reigning conference champions after going 15-3-3 and 8-0-1 in conference play, while Santa Clara went 15-7-1, 8-1-0.

In 2017, the Cougars tied for fourth place with Loyola Marymount after compiling a 4-4-1 record in conference play.

Sophomore midfielder Mikayla Colohan was selected to the All-WCC Preseason Team. In 2017, Colohan received WCC Honorable Mention Honors and was named to the All-WCC Freshman Team after scoring three goals and tallying five assists for a total of 11 points. She also became the eighth Cougar to record an assist in her first collegiate game.

The preseason poll and team are picked after compiling votes from the conference’s 10 head coaches.
