SAN FRANCISCO – The BYU women's soccer team fell 2-1 to San Francisco on Thursday night at Negoesco Field.

"We have played some good soccer and created some good opportunities, but in the end, results matter and it's unfortunate we didn't put the ball in the back of the net." BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "We have a lot of players that are capable and we see it every day at practice, but it just hasn't transitioned into our games."

The first four minutes of the game saw a lot of action. In the third minute, the Cougars (7-7-4, 4-3-1 WCC) were awarded a penalty kick. Nadia Gomes took the shot, but San Francisco's (7-10-2, 3-5 WCC) goalkeeper Olivia Camera made the save and kept the game scoreless. A minute later, Izzie Lueken put the Dons on the scoreboard with the first goal of the game.

In the 22nd minute, Madie Siddoway blasted a shot, forcing the keeper to make a save, but Cameron Tucker was there for the rebound, tying the game at 1-all.

At the half, BYU outshot San Francisco 13-9 and Hannah Clark had four saves.

Both teams had dangerous attempts at goal in the second half, but the Dons took the lead for good in the 69th minute when Desiree Major scored off a free kick 30-yards out, sliding the ball past a diving Clark.

The Cougars recorded 26 shots, including 13 on frame compared to San Francisco's 14 shots and nine on goal.  Siddoway led all shooters with six shots and Mikayla Colohan and Madie Lyons Mathews each had four. Clark tallied seven saves in the loss.

BYU travels to Santa Clara on Saturday, Nov. 4, for the final game of the 2017 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. MDT. A live stream will be available on TheW.tv and audio broadcasts can be heard on BYU Radio (Sirius XM 143) and ESPN 960 AM.
