Gomes named WCC Player of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference named BYU senior forward Nadia Gomes as Player of the Week for Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Gomes played a significant role in the Cougars' two wins against Kansas and Utah Valley last week, scoring a total of three goals. On Monday against Kansas, Gomes scored BYU's first goal of the game in the 29th minute to even out the score at 1-all and finished a penalty kick in the 41st minute to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead at halftime. In a 3-0 win against Utah Valley on Friday, she scored in the 15th minute off a free kick, just outside the 18-yard box, to give BYU an early 1-0 lead.
On the season, Gomes leads the offense with four goals and two assists for a total of ten points. She is climbing her way up in the record book this season after claiming the 15th spot in career goals with 22 and is tied for 12th in career assists with 21.
This is the first time this season a Cougar has been named the WCC Player of the Week. For Gomes, its the second time she has been named in her career, as she was cited in 2015.
