NORMAN, Okla. — Senior Brittain Steiner led the No. 8 BYU women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over No. 16 Oklahoma in the Cougars' final exhibition game on Friday night at John Crain Field.

“It was a great way to start our season against such a great team,” BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. “If we can read the game and what our opponents are giving us, then I think we will be a good and dangerous team this year.”

Despite a slow start, the Cougars managed to gain momentum and control the tempo in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net on any of their eight shot attempts.

The second half continued to show the Cougars' ability to create offensive opportunities with multiple players getting involved in the attack. Freshman Mikayla Colohan played critical minutes in the midfield and created impressive opportunities for the offense.

In the 77th minute, the Cougars took their much-deserved lead when Brittain Steiner received a cross from Madie Siddoway and beautifully placed a one-touch shot into the goal for the first and only goal of the game.

The Cougars outshot the Sooners 19-7 and recorded a dominant eight shots on goal. Hannah Clark played all 90 minutes in goal for BYU.

BYU opens the 2017 season at Penn State on Friday, August 18 at 7 p.m. EDT. Live streaming and audio broadcasts will be available. The links can be found on the schedule page.
