PROVO, Utah – BYU athletics announced Friday the hiring of Brent Anderson as an assistant women's soccer coach.

"We are thrilled to welcome Brent to our BYU soccer family," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "He comes with tremendous experience at the Division I level having built the program at Utah Valley. I look forward to incorporating his perspective and new ideas that will help continue to build our program and develop our student athletes at the highest level."

Anderson will join Rockwood's staff that also includes assistant coach Aleisha Rose and volunteer assistants McKinzie Olson and Rachel Jorgensen. His hiring comes after former BYU associate head coach Chris Watkins became the new Gonzaga women's head coach on Dec. 12.

"I am humbled by this new opportunity and excited about the prospect of working with coach Rockwood and Aleisha (Rose) at BYU," Anderson said. "Jennifer has built a successful and accomplished program and I'm hoping to contribute positively to its success."

Anderson had been the head women's soccer head coach at Utah Valley since 2006, having compiled a 110-100-14 record over 11 seasons. His Wolverines won a program-record 14 games in 2015 and won the Western Athletic Conference tournament to receive their first NCAA tournament bid.

In 2014, Anderson guided Utah Valley to a then-record of 13 wins. Prior to that, when the Wolverines played in the Great Western Conference, Anderson was named Coach of the Year in all four years that the league existed.

Before taking the Utah Valley head coaching job, Anderson was an assistant coach at Utah State, his alma mater. While a student, he played on the Aggie men's soccer club team for four years as a goalkeeper.

Anderson is from Logan, Utah, and he and his wife Kathy have four kids.
