Four players score as No. 5 BYU beats Pacific 4-0
STOCKTON, Calif. – Ashley Hatch, Avery Calton Walker, Michele Vasconcelos and Jocelyn Loomis all scored as No. 5 BYU beat Pacific 4-0 on Saturday at Knoles Field.
"It wasn't our prettiest game of the season, but I'm really happy with our two results this week," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "We got some great play from our starters and our bench players today."
The win marked four in a row for the Cougars (15-2-1, 6-1-1 West Coast Conference), who got their second consecutive clean sheet against the Tigers (1-14-1, 1-7-0).
Hatch had her 17th goal on the season and 45th career goal. Vasconcelos bumped her season totals up to 12 goals and 12 assists, with 29 of each on her career.
For the second-straight game, Hatch netted the first goal close to the 20th minute. She fired a right-footed shot from the back of the 18-yard box that found the net in the 18th minute to put BYU up 1-0. Vasconcelos was credited with an assist.
Walker scored her first BYU goal to put the Cougars up 2-0. BYU took multiple shots that were blocked close to the goal, and Walker finally hammered one that was partially deflected and crept across the line in the 38th minute.
Just before halftime, Madie Lyons connected with Loomis on a run into the right side of the box. She possessed it and shot toward the far post and past the goalkeeper for 3-0 BYU lead in the 44th minute.
That gave Loomis, who scored her first goal as a Cougar on Thursday against Saint Mary's, goals in back-to-back games. Lyons was given the assist.
Hannah Clark was replaced by Rachel Boaz in goal for the second half as she was on Thursday.
BYU continued to pour it on in the 51st minute, when Vasconcelos made a run down the left side of the box and took a pass from Elena Medeiros and found the top left corner of the net. That gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead.
For Vasconcelos, it marked the fourth-straight game she's had at least one goal and one assist.
BYU returns home for its final game of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. MDT. The seniors will be recognized that night as the Cougars take on Gonzaga. Audio of that game can be heard on the Cougar IMG Network, BYU Radio (Sirius XM 143) and ESPN 960 AM. A video stream will be on TheW.tv.
