Gomes named to MAC Hermann Trophy watch list
PROVO – Nadia Gomes was named to the watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honor in college soccer, on Wednesday.
Gomes was among 36 women named to the list. The junior forward is coming off a season in which she was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year after scoring nine goals and assisting on four others.
With the mention, Gomes becomes the seventh BYU player named to the Hermann Trophy watch list. The last was teammate Ashley Hatch, who was cited prior to last season. In addition to Gomes and Hatch, former Cougars Lindsi Lisonbee Cutshall, Aleisha Rose, Jessica Harmon Carter, Katie Larkin and Andrea Willis have also been recognized on the list.
Toward the end of the season, 15 finalists will be selected from the 36 members of the watch list. At that point, fans will help in the selection process for the award by voting online. The pool will then be narrowed down to three final ballot players who will attend a banquet in St. Louis for the presentation of the award.
The NCAA's press release can be found on its website and more information regarding the award is located at machermanntrophy.org.
