PROVO, Utah – Sophomore forward Madie Lyons earned West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals and an assist in a 4-1 victory over Saint Mary’s on Saturday.

It was Lyons’ first multiple-goal game of her career and her fifth assist of the season. Lyons has started every conference game this year, replacing Ashley Hatch. In those nine games, Lyons has scored three goals and made four assists.

Lyons bookended the scoring for BYU. In the 11th minute, on a pass from Jocelyn Loomis, Lyons beat the keeper to the far post for the early 1-0 lead. In the 74th minute, Lyons again found the far post to beat the keeper to make it 4-1. She assisted on Nadia Gomes’ tap-in goal in the 27th minute as she got to the end line and crossed in a ball that Gomes put away for the 2-0 lead.

The player of the week award is the first of Lyons’ career and third of the season for BYU. Michele Murphy Vasconcelos and Nadia Gomes are the previous winners.
