Gomes named WCC Player of the Week
PROVO, Utah – BYU sophomore forward Nadia Gomes was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday for her two-goal performance against Loyola Marymount on Saturday night.
Gomes scored both her goals in a span of 14 seconds to help the No. 13 Cougars knock off first place LMU 2-0. Gomes’ first goal came off a cross by Paige Hunt in the middle of the box. On the second goal, Gomes beat a defender and the goalkeeper to a pass from Jocelyn Loomis and was able to roll it into the goal for the 2-0 advantage.
Gomes is tied for the team lead in goals with seven and leads in points with 17 on the season.
It is the first WCC Player of the Week award for Gomes in her career and is the second award for BYU this season after Michele Murphy Vasconcelos was player of the week on Sept. 28.
