This season they were picked to finish fourth in the Big West and received one first place vote.

Washington State finished last year second in the Pac-12 with a 14-3-4 overall record before losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament in penalty kicks. The maroon Cougars were picked sixth in the Pac-12 by the coaches this year and were voted 26th in the nation in the first NSCAA poll. Washington State returns to Provo for the first time in four years after BYU won 3-1 in the last matchup. The Cougars will face TCU in Pullman, Washington, on Friday, Aug. 22 before traveling for Monday's game.
