BYU tops alumni 1-0
PROVO, Utah – On a beautfiul April evening, BYU women's soccer beat a group of its own alumni 1-0 on South Field Tuesday evening.
Twenty alumni suited up to face off against this spring's version of the Cougars, while several more came to watch and socialize. Sophomore Sarah Chambers scored the first and only goal four minutes into the game as Miranda Bailey played her down behind the defense and Chambers snuck a shot past freshman goalkeeper Hannah Clark.
The Cougars created some of their best chances early on before the alumni had time to get in the groove on the field. By the second half, the alumni created a couple scoring chances of their own, but nothing came of them.
Goalkeeping for both sides came from current Cougars, which meant the past six years worth of goalkeepers in McKinzie Olson and Erica Owens had to play in the field. Owens reverted to her former high school position of forward, while Olson mostly played in the midfield.
BYU will close out its spring exhibition schedule on Saturday at South Field with two matches against in-state rivals. The Cougars face Utah State at noon and take on Utah at 4 p.m. So far this spring, BYU has yet to lose going 7-0-1 against its competition.
