Cougars continue undefeated spring
LAS VEGAS – BYU women's soccer continued its unblemished spring season on Saturday as the Cougars defeated USC 2-1 and tied UNLV 1-1. The games were played back-to-back and BYU improved to 7-0-1 this spring.
Against Southern California, all three goals were scored in the second half. USC took a 1-0 lead before Avery Calton found Niki Fernandes who chipped the ball over the keeper to tie the game at 1-1. Elena Medeiros scored the gamewinner on an assist from Ashley Hatch before the Cougar defense held on for the victory.
After a 30-minute rest, BYU took on UNLV who again scored first. Hatch equalized on a shot from a tight angle off an assist from Sarah Chambers.
The Cougars will finish their spring schedule this week at home. BYU will play in an alumni scrimmage on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on South Field before hosting Utah State at noon and Utah at 4 p.m. on Saturday, also on South Field. Admission is free for all three games and fans are encouraged to attend.
