Cougars sweep through St. George
ST. GEORGE, Utah – BYU women's soccer added two more wins to its six-game spring winning streak with a 1-0 victory over Southern Utah and a 3-0 victory over Dixie State on Saturday at Dixie State's Hansen Stadium.
Miranda Bailey scored the gamewinner in the first game against SUU on a free kick in the first half. She put the ball over the wall and snuck it into the near post for the 1-0 lead. Hilary Smith Kaufusi and Hannah Clark combined for the shutout to keep the Thunderbirds off the scoreboard.
In the second game of the day, the Cougars downed Dixie State 3-0 behind goals by Jaiden Thornock, Camille Green and Taylor Campbell. Thornock opened the scoring in the first half on a long free kick and Green added another first half goal off an assist from Niki Fernandes. Campbell scored in the second half on a corner kick from Sarah Chambers.
The Cougars are now 6-0 this spring with four games remaining. Chambers leads the team in assists with five, while Ashley Hatch has scored six goals. Chambers and Thornock have each scored three goals, while Niki Fernandes has two goals and three assists.
BYU continues its spring schedule when it travels to Las Vegas to take on UNLV and USC on Saturday April 5.
