No. 24 BYU shuts out Gonzaga 1-0
SPOKANE, Wash. - The No. 24 ranked BYU women's soccer team defeated Gonzaga 1-0 on Thursday afternoon for its fifth win in the last six games.
The Cougars (10-4-1, 4-1-0) recorded their fourth shutout in the past five games. Erica Owens only faced seven shots and made four saves. BYU took 19 shots, the third straight game with 19 or more shots.
Marissa Nimmer scored the game winning goal in the 10th minute off a cross from Niki Fernandes. The goal is Nimmer's second of the season and came in her third start of the year and second in a row. She started the second half against Pepperdine and has been in the starting lineup ever since.
Nimmer and Cloee Colohan each took four shots against Gonzaga, while Niki Fernandes attempted three, Rachel Manning and Ashley Hatch each took two.
BYU continues its road trip on Saturday with the WCC Game of the Week. The Cougars take on No. 6 Portland at Merlo Field. The game will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. MDT on TheW.tv.
