Owens named WCC Player of the Week
BYU senior goalkeeper Erica Owens was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for Oct. 21. Owens and the No. 25 BYU women's soccer team recorded two shutouts last week in a 1-0 win over Pepperdine and a 2-0 victory over Loyola Marymount.
Against Pepperdine, Owens made three saves, all in the first half, and kept the conference's leading scorer off the score sheet. The Waves only had one shot in the second half and six total. In the win over LMU, Owens made five saves and the Lions were limited to six total shots.
Owens leads the WCC in goals against average at .77 and in total shutouts with six. With five saves against LMU, Owens moved into a tie for fifth place all-time in BYU career saves with Camille Thomas at 120.
This is the third WCC Player of the Week award for BYU this season. Senior midfielder Rachel Manning won on Aug. 26 and freshman forward Ashley Hatch won on Sept. 9.
