The No. 11 BYU women's soccer team fell 1-0 on the road to Long Beach State on Saturday night.
The 49ers (5-3-0) scored off a free kick in the 13th minute to take the lead. BYU goalkeeper Erica Owens was drawn out of the box and collided with Eileen Maes to give the 49ers the free kick. Long Beach's Mimi Rangel chipped the ball over the wall and into the net for the gamewinning goal.
The loss is the first on the road for the Cougars (5-2-1) this season.
BYU started the game earning chances. Cloee Colohan hit the crossbar in the seventh minute and had a shot on goal in the 10th. Ashley Hatch had two shots on goal in the second half for BYU, but nothing came of their offensive chances.
The Cougars will host No. 14 Denver on Thursday at 7 p.m. on South Field.
