Introducing freshman Elena Medeiros

No. 27 Bountiful, Utah

Medeiros will play as a midfielder for the Cougars. She is one inch taller than the shortest player on the team, but her quickness makes up for any lack of height.

Her favorite thing to do on a soccer field is to make a defender look silly.

"I honestly like when you pull a move and it actually works," Medeiros said. "It's just the most satisfying feeling in the world, knowing that you just beat someone like that."

Medeiros was born in Hawaii, but has lived in Utah since she was a little girl. She still has family back on the islands and enjoys rice and chicken and other local Hawaiian foods. She also enjoys being around her family.

"I like to play the piano, hang out with family and friends," Medeiros said. "Just doing fun stuff, me and my little brothers like to make funny music videos, mess around and have fun."

She was a three-year starter in high school and has always been an admirer of the BYU women's soccer program.

"I have literally dreamed about going to BYU since I can remember," Medeiros said. "I just love the environment and the soccer program is incredible. I like that the people here have the same standards as you, so it's easier to be yourself."

She views her chance to play for BYU as something that can be great, even her first year here.

"Freshman year you're back at the bottom," Medeiros said. "But I think it's so fun that you get to be a part of the environment and be part of the girls and experience everything you've ever hoped for."

She has here eyes set on playing for the Cougars and coming out with a title by the time her career is over.
