Seniors shine in final meet of regular season
BOISE, Idaho – In the final meet of the regular season, the BYU women’s gymnastics team was defeated at Boise State 196.200 – 194.300 Friday, despite stellar performances from all of the seniors on the team.
In the first rotation, both senior Natalie Eyre-Pickard and sophomore KayCee Gassaway scored a 9.825. Junior Sarah Yandow also had a great performance scoring a 9.800. The team put up a 48.825 on the event, trailing the Broncos score of 49.275 going into the second rotation.
On vault, the Cougars were led by team captain Eyre-Pickard, who scored a 9.875. Fellow senior Mickell Merrell scored a 9.800 to contribute to the team score of 48.600.
The Cougars tied their highest score of the night on floor, with a cumulative score of 48.825. Senior Krysten Koval led the team with a career-high 9.900. Merrell and sophomore Raquel Willman scored 9.825 and 9.800, respectively.
In the final rotation, all three seniors that competed on beam scored a 9.800 or higher. Jennifer Lezeu had her highest score of the night with a 9.800. Eyre-Pickard tied her career-high with a 9.875. For the second time during the meet, Koval scored a 9.900.
The team will now await the announcement of regionals, which will be held April 7, 2012, in Salt Lake City, at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
