Cougars fall to No.14 Auburn on the road

AUBURN, Ala. – The BYU women’s gymnastics team fell to the No. 14 Auburn Tigers 195.950 – 192.575, Friday night at Auburn Arena. This was the first meet for the Cougars in almost two weeks and was also the last regular season meet for the Tigers, in which all the senior gymnasts were honored.

The night started off rough for the Cougars on the uneven bars with a score of 47.500. Despite a few falls, junior Sarah Yandow scored a team-high 9.825. Senior Natalie Eyre-Pickard contributed a 9.775 to help the team.

On vault the team was able to regain some ground with another solid performance from Pickard, who scored a 9.825. Sophomore all-arounder Raquel Willman scored an impressive 9.800 and senior Mickell Merrell added a 9.750.

The Cougars only competed five gymnasts on floor, with a team score of 47.675. Senior Krysten Koval led the squad with a solid 9.750.

The balance beam proved to be the best event of the night for BYU with a team score of 48.850. The Cougars were led by Eyre-Pickard, who won the event for the night with a 9.875. Seniors Koval and Jennifer Lezeu both scored 9.800 to help the team. True freshman Margaurite Lindstrom had a career-high performance, scoring a 9.750, to help the team finish strong.

The Cougars have a quick turnaround and are back in action, Monday March 19th, at 4:00 p.m. MDT, at the Smith Fieldhouse. It will be the last home meet of the season and is Senior Night. The game will be broadcast live on BYUtv with live stats available at byucougars.com.
