BYU Gymnastics Takes Third in Texas

DENTON, Texas – The BYU women’s gymnastics team received its highest team score of the season Saturday night at Texas Women’s University. The Cougars 194.900 was enough to take third place in the quad-meet against TWU (2nd – 195.125), Iowa (1st – 195.875) and Southeast Missouri State (4th – 188.925).

The night started off on balance beam for the Cougars. Senior Natalie Eyre-Pickard led the team with a 9.825. Fellow seniors Krysten Koval and Jennifer Lezeu also pitched in, both scoring 9.800.

On floor, Lezeu continued to show her consistency scoring her second 9.800 of the night. Koval and sophomore all-arounder Raquel Willman both scored above a 9.750.

In the third rotation, the Cougars fought to maintain the accuracy they have had on vault this season. Eyre-Pickard scored a 9.800 to lead the team.

It was the Cougar’s time to shine on the bars, scoring a season-high 49.100. Five gymnasts scored a 9.775 or higher including Eyre-Pickard, who had the highest individual score of the night for the Cougars with a 9.875.  Lezeu scored a 9.850, maintaining a 9.800 or higher on every event she competed in.

The Cougars are back in action on Monday, March 5th at Utah State University, at 7 p.m. MST.
