Cougars Fall to Red Rocks in Deseret First Duel

SALT LAKE CITY –  In its third consecutive away meet, the BYU women’s gymnastics (1-2) team fell 197.550-194.450 to the No. 3 Utah Red Rocks (2-1) in front of a sell-out crowd of 15,310 at the Huntsman Center on Friday. The crowd was the fourth-largest in Utah history.

Sophomore Raquel Willman competed in the all-around and earned a score of 39.025. True freshman Marguerite Lindstrom competed in her first meet as a Cougar, scoring a 9.700 on uneven bars and a 9.500 on balance beam.

The night began on the uneven bars for the Cougars, with three of the gymnasts scoring a 9.750 or higher. Willman led the team with a 9.825.

The next event was vault, which has proven to be a strength for the team. Senior Natalie Pickard and sophomore stand-out Megan Bain both scored a 9.800 to lead the way. The team scored a 48.925 on the event, which was the highest single-event of the night.

To end the night, senior Krysten Koval had a strong performance on the floor, scoring a 9.825, tying for the highest score of the night for the team.

The Cougars will host their first home meet of the season against Boise State on Feb. 4th in the Smith Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast live on BYUtv.
