BYU Gymnastics Heads East For Quad Meet
PROVO -- After enjoying early success in their first two meets of the season the BYU women’s gymnastics team (4-1) will travel to Cleveland, Ohio to face No. 11 Kent State, Wisconsin-Oshkosh and George Washington in the Wolstein Center at 7 p.m. on Friday.
In their first two meets of the season BYU has defeated two ranked opponents, No. 16 Denver and No. 18 Arizona as well as Air Force and USU, on its way to a 4-1 start. The Cougars only loss came against gymnastics powerhouse Georgia at Denver.
“We’re getting better and better,” BYU head coach Brad Cattermole said. “I expect our team to do what we do in practice. I don’t expect us to be any better than we are but I expect us to do what we are capable of doing and those things we have done in practice.”
Kent State has posted some very impressive scores already this season, topping Sacramento State by a significant margin, 195.475-189.625 last weekend at the Lady Luck Invitational. BYU’s all-time record with KSU is 1-3.
Fans will be watching to see what Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week, Lindsay Runyan as she competes on uneven bars as she is currently ranked the 12th best gymnast in the country on the event with an average score of 9.900.
"Brigham Young is a team that's gone to nationals before,” Kent State head coach Brice Biggin said of BYU in a press release this week. “And we haven't seen (them) for a little while. They're got a good reputation, history and tradition."
George Washington will also provide solid competition for the Cougars coming into the meet with a 5-1 record, their only loss coming against No. 25 North Carolina.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh comes into the meet with a 2-2 record thus far in Division III competition.
